October at Crossroads Community: Creating, Sharing, Connecting

October was a month of creativity, reuse and meaningful human connection for Crossroads Community. Through two special events in Thessaloniki, we transformed everyday objects into personal creations, gave more than 2,500 items a new lease of life and discovered the power of creating together.

From the unique tote bags we decorated together to a vibrant celebration of swapping and contemporary art, each gathering offered an opportunity to share ideas, experiment with materials and build new connections.

6 October | Make Your Bag Your Own! 🎨

14 unique bags. 14 different stories. One shared creative experience.

Can a reusable tote bag become more than an everyday essential? At our Make Your Bag Your Own! creative workshop, we discovered that it can become a little canvas for personal expression!

Guided by Toula Karv, Web & Graphic Designer and member of Crossroads Community, we designed and made our own stencils, experimented with fabric paints and created our very own, one-of-a-kind tote bags.

We designed, cut, painted and left our personal mark on every bag. The result? Fourteen unique creations, each with its own style and story, ready to begin their journeys through the streets of Thessaloniki!

Beyond the joy of making something by hand, the workshop highlighted an important message about sustainability: choosing reusable items over single-use alternatives is a small but meaningful step towards a more sustainable lifestyle. And we can take that step with imagination, colour and personality!

A heartfelt thank you to Toula for generously sharing her time, skills and inspiration, and to Spacetime – Χωροχρόνος for welcoming us, providing the space and offering their warm support.

Because a tote bag can be so much more than just a bag: it can be an idea you carry with you.

18 October | From Hand To Hand, Into Art ♻️

120 people. More than 2,500 items. Countless new possibilities.

Crossroads Community, in collaboration with the Macedonian Center of Contemporary Art – Friends of MOMus, organised a special celebration of connection, sharing and creativity, bringing people, ideas, objects and contemporary art together.

In just four hours, 120 participants and 14 volunteers came together in a shared space for generosity, collaboration and creative expression. We exchanged items, met new people, shared experiences and discovered new ways to recognise the value in the things we already have.

♻️ Swapping with purpose

An estimated 2,500 or more items, mainly clothing, found new homes and a second life. Clothes, books, accessories and other belongings passed into new hands, showing us that something we no longer need can become valuable to someone else.

And the spirit of giving continued beyond the event: the remaining items were donated to Casa Base of NAOMI Workshop Thessaloniki, extending the initiative’s impact through solidarity.

🎨 Where swapping meets making

At "From Hand To Hand, Into Art", art came to life on the spot through participation, experimentation and collaboration!

Together with the participants, we created handmade accessories and jewellery, repurposing available materials and giving them a new lease of life. Participants became creators themselves: they experimented with ideas and combinations of materials and left with their own unique creations.

Our collective creativity also took shape in two distinctive artworks. With the active participation of everyone who joined us, we created a collaborative textile artwork and a collective collage featuring photographs of artworks, using printed material from magazines in the archive of the Macedonian Center

of Contemporary Art (MCCA).

Materials that already existed took on new forms and told new stories, as different ideas, hands and perspectives came together to create something shared. The creative process became an opportunity to collaborate, experiment and look at the world around us from a different perspective.

These two collaborative artworks will keep the

inspiration and energy of our gathering alive

— a reminder that when we share materials,

ideas and space, we can create something

that none of us could have made alone.

❤️ A heartfelt thank you

Our warmest thanks go to the Macedonian Center of Contemporary Art – Friends of MOMus for its hospitality and support, and to our generous sponsors, Tryfonidis Winery, Belas Greek Dairy and Vezyroglou Farm, for their valuable contributions.

Above all, we thank our 14 volunteers and everyone who helped make this celebration possible. Through their presence, care and generosity, they showed us that community is built through acts of solidarity, both small and large.

People Are the Crossroads.

From creating a personalised tote bag to exchanging thousands of items and making collaborative artworks, October’s activities reminded us that sustainability, art and human connection can coexist and strengthen one another.

At Crossroads Community, we believe that our different journeys can meet in open, creative and inclusive spaces — places where we share, collaborate and discover what brings us together.

Since the dawn of time, distances have separated people, yet our desire to bridge them has always brought us closer. We continue to seek those crossroads where our journeys

meet and new possibilities emerge.

Thank you for being part of these encounters.

We look forward to the next ones!

With gratitude and warmth,

The Crossroads Community Team ❤️
